The Black Crowes – Remedy

The Black Crowes – Remedy

‘Remedy’ is a song by American rock band the Black Crowes from their second album, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion (1992). It appears as the second track on the album. ‘Remedy’ reached number one on the US Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart in May 1992 and stayed there for 11 weeks. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at number 48. It also reached number 24 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the band's highest-charting single in the United Kingdom, and entered the top 10 in New Zealand and Norway.

According to lead vocalist Chris Robinson, ‘Remedy’ is a song about freedom, written as a response to the war on drugs. When interviewed, Robinson said “‘Remedy’ is a song that essentially is about freedom. We were into the whole idea that the “war on drugs” was just silly – it was this asinine concept to me and millions of other people. So that song to me is about freedom, plain and simple, just put in a rock & roll framework.”

After scoring a staggering six hit singles off their 1990 debut, Shake Your Money Maker, there are few bands in history that had as much pressure to deliver an equally powerful follow-up as The Black Crowes. Amazingly, not only did the group meet these expectations, but they surpassed them, as their 1992 record, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion’s success was driven by the lead single, which had a title that could be taken on many different levels: ‘Remedy’.

While the single spent an amazing eleven weeks at the top of the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart, it also powered the album to the top of the charts, leading to more than two million copies sold in the U.S. alone.

SONG LYRICS

[Verse 1]

Baby, baby, why can't you sit still?
Who killed that bird out on your windowsill?
Are you the reason that it broke it's back?
Tell me, did I see ya' baby laugh about that?

[Refrain]

If I come on like a dream
Dream
Will you let me show you what I mean?
What I mean
Will you let me come on inside?
On inside
Ooh, will you let it glide?

[Chorus]

(Can I have some remedy?)
All I want is a remedy
(Remedy for me, please)
For all of the things that I need
(If I had some remedy)
Ooh, I would take enough
(I'd take enough to please me)
To please me

[Verse Two]

Baby, baby, why you dye your hair?
Why you always keepin' with your mother's dare?
So, baby, why who's who?
Who babe? I know you too
Tell me, did the other children scold on you?

[Refrain]

If I come on like a dream
Like a dream
Ooh, will you let me show you what I mean?
What I mean
Will you let me come on inside?
On inside
Oh, will you let it slide?
Let it slide

[Chorus]

(Can I have some remedy?)
All I want is a remedy
(Remedy for me, please)
For all of the things that I need
(If I had some remedy)
I would surely take enough
(I'd take enough to please me)
To please me
[Guitar solo]

Woo!

[Outro]

Uuh!
I need a remedy, huh, yeah
For what is ailin' me
Ya' see? Huh
I need a remedy
For what is ailin'a me
I need a remedy, yeah
For what's ailin' me
Wooooow!
If I only had a remedy

You see I find it
Find it
You see, baby, I want it
I want it
Ooh, you see, I find it
Find it
Ooh, I really want, I really want it
Ya' see I need it
Oh, I really wanna' tell ya' all about it
Yeah, I wanna' scream it, scream it
Ooh, I feel I just wanna' shout about it
I need a remedy, remedy, remedy, remedy, remedy, remedy
Remedy, remedy, yeah
Remedy - that's what I need
Wooooow
I see it
Oh, no, no, no
